Prospective Rowers

Who We Are

We are not your typical high school club or team. You don't have to join as a gifted ballplayer or talented musician. This is the first stop -- we will help you acquire the skills and conditioning necessary to compete successfully in this international sport. You do not have to know your teammates to join. We are a social organization that offers you myriad opportunities to meet and hang out with other members of your team and with other rowers from around the area, the country and the world.

Who Can Join

Any high school student -- there's no experience necessary! All you need is a desire to learn and to grow both as an athlete and as a person.

What We Row

We row boats. Long boats. Narrow boats. With either five or nine people in them, though we have been know to row and are open to smaller (1 and 2 person) boats.

Where we row

In a classroom -- well, that's just for practice. We train on the Schuylkill River in beautiful Conshohocken, the closest boathouse to Lower Merion. We race wherever the competition takes us -- by Boat House Row on Kelly Drive, on the Cooper River in New Jersey, at national competitions from Maine to Florida. If there is a flat body of water, we will row on it!

When we practice

After school - In the fall, we organize carpools to practices at the boathouse. In the Spring, a bus is provided to and from the boat house.

When we compete

We compete in the Spring race season, predominantly on Sundays. There may also be opportunities to compete in select fall regattas.

Why join

If you are looking for a fun, athletic, team-oriented venture, then look no further. Our rowers start off as novices or beginners, but then they catch the spirit and take off on their own, seeking additional opportunities to row, learning how to train and to take care of their bodies, and transferring the mental discipline they acquire to other aspects of their lives. Think a sport like this takes too much time from academics? Our rowers do better than the average student and, in fact, they see their own grades improve -- you can look it up!
